WELCOME

  • The theme for this week is the loving power of prayer.
  • The reading from the featured Psalm for today is from …

Psalm 119:97-100,101-104

Oh, how I love Your law!  It is my meditation all the day.  98 You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies;  For they are ever with me.  99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation.  100 I understand more than the [a]ancients, Because I keep Your precepts.
101 I have restrained my feet from every evil way, That I may keep Your word.  102 I have not departed from Your judgments, For You Yourself have taught me.  103 How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!  104 Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.

SCRIPTURE READING

2 Timothy 3:14-17,4:1-5 (NKJV)

14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 4:1-5   I charge you [b]therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead [c]at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Interactive Sermon

  • Luke 18:1-8 (NKJV)

Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor [a]regard man.  Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, [b]‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will [c]avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ”

Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them?  I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.  Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What about the passage stands out for you?
  2. Assuming, for the moment, that you have heard this passage before … how have you understood this parable?
  3. Based on what you may have heard about this parable … what would you say is the main message of the parable?
  4. Whom do you think the widow represents?
  5. Whom do you think the judge represents?
  6. What about application?   Is there any insight on anything in the story that could be applied to our situations today?
  7. What do you think the parable is about, primarily?
  8. Does the last sentence seem out of place?
  9. What is the link between the widow’s persistence, the judge’s injustice and faith?
